Project Summary
Project entailed replacing 30 Cord-4 (Corrpro) RMU sites
Designed & implemented a complete remote monitoring & control system for managing Kern River's corrosion protection system
Manufactured, assembled, programmed, & tested complete RMU units
Installed RMU units and GPS Antennas
Complete commissioning of system including communications & SCADA operations
Phase I completed August of 2002 (22 Sites)
Phase II expansion completed October of 2003 (8 Sites)
Provide ongoing operations & maintenance training
Completed all projects on time & on budget
Project RMU Minimum Requirements
Monitor DC Voltage being output to ground bed
Monitor DC Amperage output - mV across the shunt
Monitor P/S Potential - pipe-to-soil potential for ref. Cell
Monitor Various Alarms - AC Fail, Intrusion, etc.
Interrupt any number of rectifiers at various sequences
Accept programmed start / stop dates & times
Variable interruption timing cycles
GPS timing for synchronized interruption
Resolution within 5 ms
Remote relay control for interrupt rectifiers
Includes programmable delays for different relay types
Record & Store "Instant Off" readings
Reading taking at an established time after rectifier off
Communicate to existing Valmet SCADA via ModbusRTU
Support various communications Data Radio, VSAT, Phone Line, Cell Phone
Project Challenges
Integrate precise timing and synchronization
Utilize precision GPS smart antenna
Antenna synchronized to UTC within 50 nanoseconds
Integrate system into existing SCADA infrastructure
Provided ModbusRTU (Daniel/Enron/Omni - version)
Utilized preferred site communications - radio, vsat, cell, leased line
